“This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end — which you can never afford to lose — with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.” -Admiral James Stockdale
Let me first start by why I used this quote. Later in the chapter Jim Collins ask the question... Who didnt make it out the POW camps. Stockdale's answer: The Optimist..... That one quote changed my life and I knew why.
I know that I have to stop and realign myself. I love a good challange because it makes you do that. Its been a long time since I sat down and analyzed every aspect of my life and gave myself grades. Its one of the most painful process that I know but through that pain you can experience freedom and growth. I know by far I am the worst at lying to myself. Many times my hope and enthusiasm about life and the future can cover of the facts (even though facts can change) or even worse deceive myself. Here are the categories that I must face and grade:
- Financial Discipline
- My Commitment to my daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly goals
- My Focus (Work Ethic)
- My Relationships
- My Faith
- How do I manage my time
- My commitment to building and developing the dream that is inside of me.
- My commitment to my health and well being
Its going to take some time. But I have to put more action behind my words and thoughts.
